Injection Moulding Machine for Socket Plates and Cover Plates

Socket plates and front cover plates are made on horizontal injection moulding machines, in single or two-cavity moulds, from flame-rated PC, PC/ABS or ABS. Plate size and the projected area of the flat face set the clamp, with mould size a second factor. Flatness decides acceptance, because a warped plate stands off the wall once fitted.

For a socket plate, machine choice leans on even packing across a wide face and steady mould temperature for uniform gloss. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for socket and cover plates and can recommend a configuration for your plate size and range.

Machine Requirements for Socket Plate Moulding

A front plate is the face of the whole switch range, so cosmetic faults show first. Points to look at:

  • Flat plates that sit flush, with warpage held across the face
  • Even gloss from steady mould temperature on both halves
  • Colour and gloss matched to modules in a different resin
  • Flame-rated grade even though the plate carries no current
  • Gate position that hides weld lines around module openings
  • Clamp sized to the full projected area of the face

Recommended Machine for Socket Plates

Single-gang and small multi-way plates in one or two cavities fit the E Series (75-180 T). Wider multi-module plates, or two plates per shot with a larger mould, move to the C Series (140-320 T). H Series (120-350 T) suits the biggest plate sizes and moulds that need extra daylight or tie-bar space.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Points plate buyers raise when they set up or extend a range.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Socket Plates?
Plate width sets the series. One or two small plates per shot usually run on the E Series, wider multi-module plates on the C Series, and the largest sizes or deep moulds on the H Series. Urea plates are thermoset and run on another process.
  • Why Do Socket Plates Warp, and How Is It Controlled?
Uneven cooling and packing across a wide, thin face leave stress that pulls the plate off flat. Balanced cooling channels, uniform wall thickness, ribs on the back and steady holding pressure keep the plate flush on the wall.
  • How Is Colour Matched Between Plates and Switch Modules?
Plates and modules are often moulded in different resins, so the same masterbatch can read differently. Matching is done on moulded samples under agreed light, with mould temperature and texture held the same across production lots.
  • Does a Socket Plate Need a Flame-Rated Grade?
Yes, in most specifications. The plate sits over live parts even though it carries no current, so buyers ask for a flame-rated PC or PC/ABS grade at the moulded wall thickness.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Socket Plate?
Yes. Share the plate drawing or sample, grade, finish, part weight, mould size, cavities and target quantity, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Electrical Accessory Parts Too?
Yes, subject to the mould. The same class of machine runs modular switch parts, socket outlet bodies, extension board covers and electricity meter boxes.
