Injection Moulding Machine for Router Housings

Router housings are made on horizontal injection moulding machines, usually as a top cover and base in separate or family moulds, from flame-retardant ABS, PC/ABS or PC. Machine size follows the projected area of the top cover, the vent slot pattern and the mould height. Keeping the thin cosmetic top flat is the main process point.

Selection for router housings focuses on platen area for wide covers, fill control through dense vent slots and gloss on the show face. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for router housing production and can recommend a configuration for your cover, base and mould layout.

Machine Requirements for Router Housing Moulding

Router housings combine thin cosmetic walls with vent slots, clips and mounting bosses. Machine selection weighs these points:

  • Even fill through dense vent slot patterns without short shots
  • Rib and gate layout that keeps the top cover flat
  • Gloss or texture held on the visible top surface
  • Flame-retardant ABS or PC/ABS moulded without burn marks
  • Snap-fit clips formed by lifters without stress whitening
  • Clear PC light pipes run in a separate small mould

Recommended Machine for Router Housings

Small home routers and access points usually fit the E Series (75-180 T). Larger covers, wider vent areas and family moulds that run top and base together are better placed on the H Series (120-350 T) or C Series (140-320 T). There, tie-bar spacing takes a wide mould and clamp margin keeps thin walls free of flash.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Common questions from networking product makers and their moulders.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Router Housings?
Compact router covers and bases run on the E Series. Larger mesh or office router housings, or family moulds, generally move to the C or H Series, sized by cover area and tie-bar spacing.
  • Why Do Router Top Covers Warp?
A thin top with a large vent area cools unevenly, and the slots break up the flow front. Even ribs, gates placed for balanced fill and equal cooling on both halves keep the cover flat after ejection.
  • Can the Housing Have a Metallic or Coated Finish?
Yes, but antenna zones must stay clear of any conductive coating or metallised finish, or wireless range drops. Painted or plated areas are agreed at the design stage, before the mould is cut.
  • How Are Status Light Pipes Made?
Light pipes are usually moulded separately in clear PC and clipped into the housing. Clear PC needs thorough drying and a polished cavity, since moisture and flow lines show as streaks in the light.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Router Housing?
Yes. Share the cover and base drawings, grade, finish, mould dimensions, cavities and monthly volume, and Pratishna Engineers will propose a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Electronics Housings Too?
Yes. The same machines can mould set-top box housings, remote control housings, charger housings and power bank housings, depending on the mould and grade.
