Injection Moulding Machine for Power Bank and Consumer Battery Pack Housings

Power bank and consumer battery pack housings are made on horizontal injection moulding machines, as two shells or a sleeve with end caps, from flame-retardant PC/ABS, FR ABS or PC. Machine size follows shell length, thin wall flow and cavity count. Stable shrinkage at the ultrasonic weld joint is the process point that matters most.

Selection for these housings focuses on fast fill of thin flame-rated walls, good melt mixing and repeatable shrinkage from shot to shot. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for power bank housing production and can recommend a configuration for your shells and mould.

Machine Requirements for Power Bank Housing Moulding

Battery pack housings hold lithium cells inside thin cosmetic shells that are often welded shut, which brings these requirements:

  • Flame-rated PC/ABS or ABS around the lithium cells
  • Repeatable shrinkage at ultrasonic weld joint faces
  • No regrind in shells that carry the weld joint
  • Screw design and back pressure that mix PC/ABS evenly
  • Fast injection into long thin walls without short shots
  • Gloss or soft texture across the large outer face

Recommended Machine for Power Bank and Battery Pack Housings

Pocket power banks and small pack shells usually run two or more cavities on the E Series (75-180 T). Longer shells, laptop-size packs and family moulds for both halves suit the C Series (140-320 T). The H Series (120-350 T) comes in where the mould is wide or thin walls need more clamp margin.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Questions power bank and battery pack brands ask their moulders.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Power Bank Housings?
Pocket power bank shells usually fit the E Series. Larger consumer battery packs and family moulds for top and bottom shells move to the C or H Series, sized by shell length and mould width.
  • Why Is Regrind Avoided in Welded Housings?
Ultrasonic welding needs the joint faces to meet at the same height every time. Regrind changes shrinkage and melt behaviour, so the weld can come out weak or uneven. Virgin material is kept for weld-joint parts.
  • What Causes Pearlescence on PC/ABS Shells?
Pearlescent streaks and weak weld lines appear when the PC and ABS phases are poorly mixed or the melt is sheared too hard. Correct back pressure, screw speed and dry material keep the blend uniform.
  • Can the Shells Be Snap-Fitted Instead of Welded?
Yes. Some designs use snap fits or screws so the pack can be opened for service. Snap hooks in PC/ABS need enough draft and generous radii, while welded designs depend on stable joint geometry.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Power Bank Housing?
Yes. Share the shell drawings, grade, joining method, mould dimensions, cavities and monthly volume, and Pratishna Engineers will suggest a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Consumer Electronics Housings Too?
Yes. Similar machines can mould charger housings, mobile phone housings, UPS housings and router housings, depending on the mould and grade.
