Injection Moulding Machine for Salon Appliance Housings

Salon appliance housings for hair dryers, straighteners and trimmers are made on horizontal injection moulding machines from ABS, PC/ABS and glass-filled PA6, with TPE grips often added as a second shot. Projected area of the shell halves and mould size set the machine. Tight split lines matter most, as the halves are screwed or ultrasonically joined.

Machine selection for appliance shells focuses on clamp margin over the projected area, a clean cosmetic face and the right grade near the heater. Pratishna Engineers builds special purpose machines to application for two-shot shells, supplies horizontal machines for single-material housings and can recommend a configuration.

Moulding Salon Appliance Housings?

Share the shell drawings, materials and whether the grip is two-shot, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a machine.

Machine Requirements for Salon Appliance Housing Moulding

Appliance shells are cosmetic, carry screw bosses and heat, and must close tightly against each other. Machine choice should cover:

  • Clamp margin over the full shell projected area
  • Tight parting line for screwed and ultrasonic joints
  • Sink control at screw bosses behind the cosmetic face
  • Heat-resistant PA6 GF or PBT near the heating element
  • Drying for PC/ABS and glass-filled nylon before moulding
  • Second shot or overmould step for TPE grips

Recommended Machine for Salon Appliance Housings

Two-shot shells with a soft-touch grip need a machine built around the rotary or transfer tool, under Special Purpose machines built to application. Single-material trimmer shells suit the E Series (75-180 T). Dryer and straightener housings with larger projected area need the C Series (140-320 T), and the largest of them the H Series (120-350 T). Bigger dryer bodies are reviewed against the mould on request.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

What appliance makers ask before moulding dryer, straightener and trimmer shells.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Salon Appliance Housings?
Trimmer shells are small enough for the E Series, while dryer and straightener housings usually need the C or H Series. Where a TPE grip is moulded on in a second shot, the job goes to a special purpose machine built for that tool.
  • Which Material Should Be Used Near the Heating Element?
Plain ABS softens near a heater, so sections close to the element are moulded in a heat-resistant grade such as glass-filled PA6 or PBT. The outer cosmetic shell can stay in ABS or PC/ABS where it runs cooler.
  • How Are Sink Marks at Screw Bosses Kept Off the Cosmetic Face?
Keep boss walls thinner than the main wall, core out thick sections and use enough hold pressure and time. Air trapped at boss ends needs venting, or it causes burn marks and short shots.
  • Can the TPE Grip Be Added Without a Two-Shot Machine?
Yes, by placing the moulded rigid shell in a second mould as an insert and overmoulding the TPE there on a standard machine. The TPE grade still has to suit the shell material so the grip bonds and does not lift.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Salon Appliance Housing?
Yes. Share the shell drawings or samples, materials, grip design, part weights, mould dimensions, cavities and production target, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Personal Care Appliance Parts Too?
Yes. Similar machines can mould hair brush bodies, thick-wall jar shells, toothbrush handles and compact cases, with each mould checked for size and tonnage.
