Injection Moulding Machine for Compact Cases

Compact cases are made on horizontal injection moulding machines, with the base, lid and mirror frame moulded in ABS, SAN, PP or POM, often in family or multi-cavity moulds. Machine size follows the lid projected area, cavity count and mould height, while gate position and mould polish decide how many cosmetic faces pass inspection.

For a compact, machine selection focuses on steady injection for colour and gloss, a clamp that does not distort the thin lid, and accurate hinge filling. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal and hybrid injection moulding machines for compact case production and can recommend a configuration for your mould.

Machine Requirements for Compact Case Moulding

A compact case is judged on its outer face and on how well the lid closes. Points to check when selecting a machine:

  • Stable melt temperature for even colour across every cavity
  • Gate placed away from the visible top face
  • Controlled clamp setting so the thin lid stays flat
  • POM or PP grades for an integral living hinge
  • Repeatable snap latch fit between lid and base
  • Mould height and stroke for family moulds of base and lid

Recommended Machine for Compact Cases

Compact parts are light, so tonnage comes from the number of cavities and the lid area. Hybrid PH Series (120-140 T) machines suit many base and lid moulds where repeatable electric injection helps the cosmetic face. Smaller tools run on the E Series (75-180 T), and the C or H Series takes larger family moulds.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Questions compact makers ask before choosing a machine.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Compact Cases?
Compact moulds usually sit in the lower part of the horizontal range. Hybrid PH or E Series machines suit base and lid tools with a few cavities, while family moulds carrying base, lid and mirror frame together may need the C or H Series.
  • Which Material Suits a Compact Hinge?
An integral living hinge needs POM or PP, which flex repeatedly without cracking. ABS and SAN give a harder, glossier case but crack at a thin hinge, so they are used with a separate pin hinge.
  • Why Does a Compact Lid Warp or Leak Powder?
Lid warpage usually comes from uneven cooling, high holding pressure or excess clamp force bending a thin lid. A lid that is not flat lets powder escape at the rim, so mould temperature and pack settings are set for flatness first.
  • How Is the Mirror Fitted to a Compact Case?
The mirror is glass or metallised sheet, bought in and fitted after moulding. A moulded frame or lid recess holds it by snap fit or adhesive, so recess depth and flatness must stay consistent from shot to shot.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Compact Case?
Yes. Share the part drawings or samples, material, hinge and latch design, mould dimensions, cavity layout, finish requirement and monthly volume, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Cosmetic Packaging Parts Too?
Yes. The same class of machine can mould lipstick cases, cream jars, cosmetic bottle caps and mascara tubes, subject to the mould size and the material.
