Injection Moulding Machine for Sensor Housings
Sensor housings are moulded on horizontal injection moulding machines in glass-filled PBT, PA6, PA66 or PPS, often moulded around terminals or a sensor element. Machine size depends on cavity count, insert loading and the small shot weight of the housing. Sealing the plastic tightly around the inserts is the main process point, since gaps let moisture reach the sensor.
Sensor housing machine selection focuses on precise shot control, stable melt temperature for engineering grades and room for insert handling. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for sensor housing production and can recommend a configuration for your housing, inserts and mould.

Machine Requirements for Sensor Housing Moulding
Sensor housings are small precision parts in hard-to-mould grades, and many carry metal parts inside them:
- Precise small shots in glass-filled PBT, PA or PPS
- Accurate insert location for terminals and lead frames
- Mould heating for PPS to reach full crystallinity
- Tight parting line and shut-offs to control PPS flash
- Drying of PBT and nylon before every run
- Controlled melt temperature around heat-sensitive sensor parts
Recommended Machine for Sensor Housings
Sensor housings are small, so the E Series (75-180 T) covers many single and multi-cavity moulds, including insert tools. Larger connector-style housings, higher cavity counts or moulds with several slides may call for the C Series (140-320 T). The H Series (120-350 T) covers the widest of these tools.

FAQs / Buyer Questions
Points sensor housing moulders often check with us.
Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Sensor Housings?
Mostly compact horizontal machines in the E Series, set up for engineering plastics and insert loading. The C or H Series is used where cavities, slides or housing size call for more clamping force. Can the Sensor Element or Terminals Be Overmoulded?
Yes. Terminals, lead frames or a pre-assembled sensor can be placed in the mould and overmoulded. Melt temperature, injection pressure and gate position must protect the insert, and the pins need clean shut-offs to avoid flash.Which Material Suits an Under-Bonnet Sensor Housing?
Glass-filled PBT and PA66 suit many engine bay sensors. PPS is chosen for higher heat and fuel or oil contact, as it holds size well. The machine barrel and mould heating are set to the chosen grade.
Why Does PPS Flash So Easily?
PPS melt is very thin and enters gaps that other grades would not. A well fitted parting line, controlled injection speed and switchover at the right point keep flash off sealing faces and terminal areas. Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Sensor Housing?
Yes. Share the housing drawing or sample, material, part weight, insert details, mould size, number of cavities and target output, and Pratishna Engineers will advise on a machine.Does the Machine Suit Other Automotive Precision Parts Too?
Yes. A machine set up for sensor housings can, with the right mould, also run automotive connectors, relay housings, control knobs and clips.
