Injection Moulding Machine for Head Lamp Lenses
Head lamp lenses are clear outer covers moulded on horizontal injection moulding machines, mostly from optical-grade PC. Lens size, wall thickness and the mould depth for a curved lens decide clamping force and shot capacity. Thorough drying of the PC matters most, because moisture leaves silver streaks across the clear face.
Selection for a head lamp lens focuses on controlled injection speed, stable melt temperature and a clean barrel. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for clear lens work and can suggest a setup to suit your lens, mould and coating route.

Machine Requirements for Head Lamp Lens Moulding
A head lamp lens is judged by eye, light pattern and coating adhesion, so the moulding setup has to provide:
- Dehumidifying drying for PC before it reaches the hopper
- Profiled injection speed to avoid jetting at the gate
- Barrel and screw kept clean of black specks
- High, even mould temperature for low moulded-in stress
- Gate placed outside the lit optical zone
- Clamping force matched to lens size and wall
Recommended Machine for Head Lamp Lenses
Two-wheeler head lamp lenses are smaller and can suit the E Series (75-180 T). Car lenses with a larger projected area and deeper curve move to the C Series (140-320 T) or H Series (120-350 T). Very large lenses needing more clamping force than this range are discussed on request.

FAQs / Buyer Questions
What lamp makers tend to ask before ordering a machine for clear lenses.
Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Head Lamp Lenses?
The size band depends on the vehicle. Motorcycle and scooter lenses often run on smaller horizontal machines, while car lenses need the larger C or H Series. Each lens is sized from its mould and projected area. Why Is PC Used for Head Lamp Lenses Instead of Glass?
PC is clear, light and resists stone impact far better than glass. It scratches and yellows under sunlight, so moulded lenses usually receive a hard coat after moulding. PMMA appears on some designs but has lower impact strength. What Causes Silver Streaks and Black Specks on a Lens?
Silver streaks usually come from moisture in PC that was not dried enough. Black specks come from degraded material in the barrel, often after long residence time or a dirty screw, so purging and short hold-up help.
Does Moulded-In Stress Affect Hard Coating?
Yes. High stress near the gate or at thick-to-thin changes can crack or haze when the coating is applied. Higher mould temperature, slower fill and correct holding pressure keep stress low.Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Head Lamp Lens?
Yes. Share the lens drawing or sample, PC grade, part weight, mould dimensions, cavities and monthly volume, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a machine.Does the Machine Suit Other Automotive Lighting Parts Too?
The same horizontal machines can mould tail lamp lenses and decorative bezels, along with housings such as sensor housings and relay housings, with screw, barrel and mould setup matched to each part.
