Injection Moulding Machine for EV Charging Guns

EV charging gun parts are made on horizontal injection moulding machines, with handle shells in PC or PC/ABS and pin carriers in flame-retardant, glass-filled PA66 or PBT. Tonnage depends on the size of each shell half, cavities per mould and slides for latch features. Holding pin positions accurately is the main process point, so the plug mates every time.

For charging guns, machine selection balances cosmetic moulding of the handle with dimensional control on the contact carrier. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for EV charging gun components and can recommend a configuration for each part and mould in your assembly.

Machine Requirements for EV Charging Gun Moulding

A charging gun combines a handle that users grip daily with a contact carrier that must hold live pins in exact positions:

  • Dried FR-PBT, PA66 and PC to avoid splay and brittleness
  • Accurate pin hole positions in the contact carrier
  • Gates placed so weld lines miss thin walls between pins
  • Sink-free handle faces over screw bosses and ribs
  • Slides for latch, trigger and cable entry features
  • Wear-resistant screw for glass-filled flame-retardant grades

Recommended Machine for EV Charging Guns

Pin carriers, latches and trigger parts are small and often fit the E Series (75-180 T). Handle shell halves suit the C Series (140-320 T), and pairs of halves or tools with several slides can need the H Series (120-350 T). Larger charger housings or holster moulds can be reviewed on request.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Questions EV charging equipment makers put to us.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make EV Charging Guns?
Each part gets its own machine size. Small contact carriers and latches run on the E Series, while handle halves move to the C or H Series as shell size and slide count grow.
  • Which Material Goes Into Each Part of the Gun?
The pin carrier is usually flame-retardant glass-filled PA66 or PBT for heat and tracking resistance. Handle shells use PC or PC/ABS for impact strength and finish, and TPU suits grips, seals and cable boots.
  • How Is the TPU Grip Added to the Handle?
TPU grips and boots can be moulded as separate parts, or overmoulded in a second mould with the rigid shell loaded as an insert. The shell grade and TPU grade must be chosen to bond to each other.
  • Why Is Gating Around the Pin Holes So Important?
Melt splits around every pin and rejoins behind it, leaving weld lines. Weak weld lines between pins can crack under insertion force or heat, so gate position and melt temperature are set to keep them strong.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My EV Charging Gun?
Yes. Share drawings or samples of each part, material grades, part weights, mould sizes, cavities and planned volume, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend machines for the set.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other EV and Electrical Parts Too?
Yes. Depending on the tool, these machines can also make automotive connectors, sensor housings, fuse boxes and battery terminal covers.
