Injection Moulding Machine for Control Knobs

Control knobs are moulded on horizontal injection moulding machines, often in multi-cavity moulds, from ABS, PC/ABS or POM. Machine size is decided by the number of cavities, the shot weight of thick knob bodies and any metal inserts loaded by hand. Sink control is the main process point, since knobs carry thick sections under a visible face.

With knobs, machine choice centres on shot accuracy for small parts and steady holding pressure for thick walls. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for control knob production and can recommend a configuration for your knob design, mould and output.

Manufacturing Control Knobs?

Send your knob drawing or sample, material, finish and cavity plan, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a machine.

Machine Requirements for Control Knob Moulding

Knobs are small, but they combine a cosmetic face, a grip texture and a shaft bore that must fit without play:

  • Accurate small shots across every cavity in the mould
  • Long, stable holding pressure for thick knob bodies
  • Drying of PC/ABS before moulding to stop splay
  • Tight bore size for D-shaft or spline fits
  • Low moulded-in stress on knobs sent for chrome plating
  • Space and time in the cycle for hand-loaded inserts

Recommended Machine for Control Knobs

Most control knob moulds are compact, so the E Series (75-180 T) suits many of them. A mould with more cavities, a hot runner or a family of knob sizes in one tool may move up to the H Series (120-350 T) or C Series (140-320 T), based on shot weight and mould size.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Answers to what control knob makers ask us most.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Control Knobs?
Usually a compact horizontal machine from the E Series. Larger series come in when the cavity count, a family mould or a heavier knob raises the shot weight past what the smaller barrels handle well.
  • How Is Sink Prevented on a Thick Knob?
Core out the body so walls stay close to even, gate into the thickest section and hold pressure until the gate freezes. Very thick knobs are sometimes moulded as an inner core and outer skin to avoid voids.
  • Can a Metal Shaft Bush Be Moulded Into the Knob?
Yes. Brass or steel bushes can be placed in the mould as inserts before each shot. The mould needs locating pins for the insert, and the cycle must allow time for loading.
  • What Matters When Knobs Are Chrome Plated?
Use a plating grade of ABS or PC/ABS and keep moulded-in stress low with a warm mould, moderate injection speed and gates away from the face. Stressed areas can blister or peel after plating.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Control Knob?
Yes. Share the knob drawing or sample, material, finish, part weight, number of cavities, any inserts and target output, and Pratishna Engineers will advise on a machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Small Automotive Parts Too?
Yes. Depending on the mould, it can also produce automotive connectors, clips, fasteners, battery terminal covers and relay housings.
