Injection Moulding Machine for Battery Covers and Lids

Battery covers and lids, which close and seal lead-acid battery containers, are made on horizontal injection moulding machines from battery-grade PP or FR-ABS. Lid area, any moulded-in terminal bushings and the vent or filler features decide machine size. A flat lid with sealing ribs that line up with the container cells is the main process target.

Machine selection for battery lids looks at platen area for a wide flat tool, shot control and, where needed, time for insert loading. Pratishna Engineers offers horizontal injection moulding machines for battery lid production and can advise on a machine for your lid design.

Machine Requirements for Battery Cover and Lid Moulding

A battery lid is wide and fairly flat, with sealing ribs, vent paths and terminal openings. The machine should allow:

  • Even cooling to keep a wide lid free of warpage
  • Sealing ribs moulded straight to match container cell walls
  • Insert loading time for lead terminal bushings
  • Clean filling of vent channels and filler holes
  • Clamping force matched to the full lid area
  • Clear moulded marking for polarity and ratings text

Recommended Machine for Battery Covers and Lids

Small two-wheeler battery lids can run on the E Series (75-180 T). Car battery covers have a wider projected area and often suit the C Series (140-320 T), while larger lids or two-cavity tools need the H Series (120-350 T). Heavy-vehicle covers above this range are discussed on request.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Things battery lid moulders tend to ask before buying a machine.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Battery Covers and Lids?
Lid area drives the choice. Motorcycle battery lids suit a smaller machine, car battery covers a medium one, and larger covers or multi-cavity lid tools move up the range.
  • Can Lead Terminal Bushings Be Moulded Into the Lid?
Yes, many lid designs hold lead bushings in the mould so the PP flows around them. The bushings must sit firmly and stay clean, and loading them adds to cycle time, which is planned when sizing the line.
  • How Is Warpage Controlled on a Battery Lid?
Wide, thin lids can bow as they cool. Even wall thickness, balanced gating and equal cooling on both mould halves keep it flat enough for heat sealing to the container.
  • Does the Lid Material Need to Match the Container?
Yes. The lid and container are heat sealed together, so both are usually the same battery-grade PP, or both FR-ABS on sealed designs. Mixing materials can weaken the seal.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Battery Cover or Lid?
Yes. Share the lid drawing or sample, material, part weight, mould dimensions, insert details, cavities and monthly volume, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Battery Parts Too?
Yes. Similar horizontal machines can produce battery containers and battery terminal covers, along with automotive housings such as fuse boxes and air filter housings.
