Injection Moulding Machine for Battery Containers

Battery containers, the cell boxes of lead-acid batteries, are moulded on horizontal injection moulding machines from battery-grade PP copolymer, with FR-ABS for some sealed designs. Box depth, opening stroke and shot weight decide machine size. Filling the long, thin cell partitions evenly is the critical point, since a short shot or thin wall can leak acid.

Selecting a machine for battery containers means checking daylight, ejector stroke and injection rate against the box height and partition walls. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for deep containers and can recommend a setup for your battery size.

Machine Requirements for Battery Container Moulding

A battery container is a deep box divided into cells, and it must stay leak-tight under acid and vibration. Points to check:

  • Long opening stroke and daylight for a deep core
  • Fast injection to fill thin cell partition walls
  • Strong core cooling to stop core shift and uneven walls
  • Venting at partition tops to avoid short shots
  • Flat top rim for heat sealing to the lid
  • Ejector stroke and force for a tall, straight-walled box

Recommended Machine for Battery Containers

Two-wheeler battery containers are shorter and can run on the C Series (140-320 T). Car battery boxes are taller and heavier, so the H Series (120-350 T) is often needed for opening stroke and shot weight. Larger truck and tractor containers that exceed this range are discussed on request.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Questions battery makers commonly bring up when sizing a container machine.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Battery Containers?
The battery size points to the machine. Motorcycle battery boxes fit medium horizontal machines, car containers need a larger clamp and longer stroke, and heavy-vehicle containers may go beyond this range.
  • Why Is PP Copolymer Used for Battery Containers?
Battery-grade PP copolymer resists sulphuric acid, keeps its impact strength in cold weather and heat seals well to the lid. FR-ABS is used for some sealed or stationary batteries where flame retardancy is specified.
  • What Causes Uneven Wall Thickness in Battery Containers?
The long cores can deflect under injection pressure if the melt reaches one side first, which thins one wall. Balanced gating, a stiff core and good core cooling keep the walls even.
  • How Much Opening Stroke Does a Battery Container Mould Need?
The machine needs enough opening stroke to clear the full container height off the core, plus space to remove the part. Mould height and box depth should be checked before choosing the machine.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Battery Container?
Yes. Share the container drawing or sample, material, part weight, mould dimensions, cavities and monthly volume, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Battery Parts Too?
Yes. Similar machines can mould battery covers and lids, while smaller battery terminal covers and vent plugs run on compact machines. EV battery pack housings are assessed separately on their own mould.
