Injection Moulding Machine for Automotive Junction Boxes

Automotive junction boxes are moulded on horizontal injection moulding machines from glass-filled PA66 or PBT for the housing, with PP often used for covers. Machine size depends on the housing footprint, mould slides for wire exits and the shot weight of thick mounting areas. Flatness of the sealing face matters most, since glass fibre can cause warpage.

For junction boxes, machine choice weighs platen space for slide-heavy moulds and clamping force for the full housing. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for automotive junction box housings and covers, and can recommend a configuration for your design and tool.

Machine Requirements for Automotive Junction Box Moulding

A junction box protects wiring under the bonnet or inside the cabin, so the housing must seal, mount firmly and hold its shape:

  • Flat sealing groove that holds its shape after cooling
  • Gate layout that controls glass fibre orientation and warp
  • Platen space for slides at wire exits and latches
  • Clamping force for upper housing, lower housing or cover
  • Dried PA66 or PBT for strong latches and bosses
  • Brass insert bushes at bolt points where specified

Recommended Machine for Automotive Junction Boxes

Compact junction boxes and their covers can often be moulded on the E Series (75-180 T). Main power distribution housings with wide footprints and several slides usually need a C Series (140-320 T) machine, or an H Series (120-350 T) one where the slides widen the mould. Larger housings beyond these sizes are reviewed on request.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Questions junction box suppliers ask when planning a new machine.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Automotive Junction Boxes?
A horizontal machine chosen by housing size and mould width. Covers and small boxes may suit the E Series, and main housings with slides often go to the C or H Series.
  • How Is the Sealing Face Kept Flat?
Glass fibres shrink less along the flow than across it, so a flat face can bow. Gate placement that gives even fibre orientation, uniform walls, balanced mould cooling and correct holding pressure keep the seal groove flat.
  • Can the Junction Box Cover Be Moulded in PP?
Yes, many covers that need no high heat or stiffness are moulded in PP, often with a living hinge or snap latches. The housing that carries terminals usually stays in glass-filled PA66 or PBT.
  • Do Wire Exits and Latch Windows Change the Mould Size?
Yes. Each exit or window can need a slide, and slides make the mould wider and taller. Tie-bar spacing and opening stroke then set the machine size as much as tonnage.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Junction Box?
Yes. Share drawings or samples for the housing and cover, material grades, part weights, mould dimensions with slides and annual volume, and Pratishna Engineers will advise.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Vehicle Wiring Parts Too?
Yes. Depending on the mould, it can also produce fuse boxes, relay housings, automotive connectors and EV charging gun housings.
