Injection Moulding Machine for Automotive Connectors
Automotive connectors are plastic housings for vehicle wiring, moulded on horizontal injection moulding machines, usually in multi-cavity tools, from glass-filled PA66, PA6 or PBT. Cavity count, shot weight against barrel size and the number of fine core pins decide the machine. Filling thin walls between terminal slots without flash is the main process challenge.
Machine selection for a connector looks at injection pressure, precise shot control and a screw that can handle glass fibre. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for engineering plastic parts and can recommend a configuration for your connector family.

Machine Requirements for Automotive Connector Moulding
A connector housing carries terminal cavities, latch arms and locking features that must fit mating parts every time. The machine has to support:
- Bimetallic screw and barrel for glass-filled PA66 and PBT
- Dryer capacity for nylon and PBT before moulding
- High injection pressure to fill thin terminal walls
- Repeatable shot size across multi-cavity connector tools
- Good mould venting to avoid burn marks at pin cores
- Clamping force set to stop flash on latch features
Recommended Machine for Automotive Connectors
Most connector housings are small, so the E Series (75-180 T) suits many single-family tools. Multi-pin ECU connectors, family moulds and higher cavity counts raise the shot weight and projected area, and these are often better placed on the C Series (140-320 T) and H Series (120-350 T).

FAQs / Buyer Questions
Common questions from wiring and connector makers about machine choice.
Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Automotive Connectors?
Smaller horizontal machines suit most connector moulds, since each housing weighs little. Larger ECU connectors and high-cavity tools need more tonnage and shot capacity, so the series is picked from the mould rather than the part alone. Why Are Glass-Filled Grades Used for Connectors?
Glass-filled PA66 and PBT keep latches stiff, hold terminal positions under heat and resist creep near the engine. Flame-retardant versions are used where the specification asks for them. The glass wears standard screws, so wear-resistant parts are chosen.Does PBT or PA66 Need Drying Before Moulding?
Yes. PBT can lose strength through hydrolysis if moulded wet, and damp nylon gives splay and weak latches. A dehumidifying dryer with the right time and temperature for the grade should feed the hopper.
How Is Warpage Controlled on a Long Connector Housing?
Glass fibre orientation makes long housings bow. Gate position, balanced wall thickness, even cooling and steady holding pressure reduce it, and the mould designer may add support ribs or correct the cavity for expected shrinkage. Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Automotive Connector?
Yes. Share the connector drawing or sample, material grade, part weight, mould dimensions, number of cavities and monthly volume, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.Does the Machine Suit Other Automotive Electrical Parts Too?
Yes. Similar machines can mould fuse boxes, relay housings, automotive junction boxes and sensor housings, with screw, barrel and clamp sized for each mould.
