Injection Moulding Machine for Screen and Disc Filters

Screen and disc filters for drip systems are made on horizontal injection moulding machines, with housings and lids in PP or nylon and grooved discs and screen frames in PP. The housing sets machine size through its shot weight, mould height and large threaded closure. Pressure strength matters most, as the housing sits on the main line.

Selection for drip filters covers two kinds of work: large pressure housings with thread release, and thin discs or frames in multi-cavity moulds. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for filter production and can recommend a configuration for each part.

Machine Requirements for Screen / Disc Filter Moulding

A drip filter body carries line pressure while its discs and screens do the filtering, so moulding needs vary by part:

  • No weld lines across pressure-bearing housing walls
  • Unscrewing or collapsible cores for large lid threads
  • Clean O-ring grooves without flash or sink
  • Full fill of fine grooves on thin filter discs
  • Flat discs with balanced cooling to prevent warpage
  • Drying and wear protection for glass-filled nylon housings

Recommended Machine for Screen / Disc Filters

Grooved discs, screen frames and small inline filter bodies are light shots for the E Series (75-180 T). Larger housings and lids with heavy walls and thread release mechanisms need more shot weight and mould height. Filter size then decides the step up: C Series (140-320 T) for mid-size housings, H Series (120-350 T) for the biggest.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

What drip filter manufacturers ask our engineers before tooling up.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Screen and Disc Filters?
Discs and small filter parts run on the E Series. Big housings and lids for main line filters need the C or H Series, so a filter maker often runs one small and one larger machine.
  • How Are Filter Discs Moulded With Fine Grooves?
Discs are thin PP rings with grooves on both faces. Fast injection, good venting at the groove ends and balanced cooling fill every groove and keep the disc flat, so stacked discs seal and filter evenly.
  • Should Filter Housings Be Moulded in PP or Nylon?
PP suits smaller filters and lower pressures. Glass-filled nylon gives a stiffer housing for higher pressure and larger sizes, but needs drying and a wear-resistant screw and barrel.
  • How Is the Screen Mesh Fixed in the Filter Frame?
The mesh can be placed in the mould as an insert and the PP frame moulded around it, or assembled afterwards. Insert moulding needs a mould that holds the mesh still and a gate that does not tear it.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Screen / Disc Filter?
Yes. Share drawings or samples of the housing, lid, discs or screen frame, material, part weights, mould sizes and your monthly quantity, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend machines.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Irrigation Parts Too?
Yes. Similar machines can mould venturi fertilizer injectors, irrigation valves, sprinkler parts and lateral fittings, depending on the mould.
