Injection Moulding Machine for Pipe Saddles and Clamp Saddles

Pipe saddles and clamp saddles, the two-part clamps that tap a branch outlet off a PE main, are moulded on horizontal injection moulding machines from PP or glass-filled PP. Pipe diameter sets mould size and projected area, while the threaded outlet and bolt bosses set shot weight and core needs. Thick bosses must pack without sink or voids.

Saddle moulding needs holding pressure and cooling time for thick sections, a wear-resistant barrel for glass fill and mould space that grows with pipe size. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for pipe and clamp saddles and can recommend sizes across your saddle range.

Manufacturing Pipe Saddles?

Tell Pratishna Engineers the pipe sizes, outlet threads and material for your saddle range, and get a machine plan for each mould.

Machine Requirements for Pipe Saddle Moulding

A clamp saddle grips the pipe and seals the tapping hole under pressure, so the moulding has to deliver:

  • Curved seat that matches the pipe outside diameter
  • Packed bolt bosses with no sink or voids
  • Collapsible or unscrewing core for the threaded outlet
  • Wear-resistant screw and check ring for glass fibre
  • Clean O-ring groove with no flash or sink
  • Gating that limits warpage of glass-filled halves

Recommended Machine for Pipe Saddles and Clamp Saddles

Saddle size follows pipe size, so one producer may need more than one machine. Small saddles for laterals and sub-mains often fit the E Series (75-180 T). Larger saddles for mains, with heavy glass-filled halves, are matched to the H Series (120-350 T) or the C Series (140-320 T) by mould size and shot weight.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

What saddle makers most often ask our engineers before tooling up.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Pipe Saddles?
It depends on the pipe size range. Smaller saddles run on the E Series, and the larger saddle moulds for mains move up to the C or H Series as shot weight and mould width grow.
  • When Is Glass-Filled PP Used for Clamp Saddles?
Glass-filled PP is chosen where the saddle must resist bolt load and creep on larger pipes. The fibre adds stiffness but causes uneven shrinkage, so gate position and cooling are set to control warpage of each half.
  • How Does Pipe Diameter Affect Saddle Mould Size?
A saddle for a larger pipe has a wider curved seat and longer bolt spans, so the mould gets wider and heavier. It must fit between the tie bars, and the opening stroke must clear the outlet core.
  • What Clamping Force Does a Saddle Mould Need?
Clamping force follows the projected area of both halves if moulded together, the runner and the melt pressure for the grade, plus a margin. Glass-filled PP and long flow to the bosses raise the requirement.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Pipe Saddle?
Yes. Share drawings or samples for each pipe size, outlet thread, material, part weights, mould dimensions, cavities and monthly output, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend the machines.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Irrigation Pipe Fittings Too?
Yes, subject to mould size. Irrigation valves, irrigation taps, lateral fittings and screen or disc filter housings use similar PP grades and threaded features.
