Injection Moulding Machine for Mouthguards

Mouthguards that are injection moulded, mainly stock guards and the frames of dual-density designs, run on small horizontal injection moulding machines in EVA, TPE or TPU. Part size and cavity count set the tonnage. Wall section matters most, since it governs protection and the wearer’s ability to breathe and speak.

For mouthguards, selection focuses on low-temperature processing control for EVA, small shot accuracy and gentle ejection of soft parts. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for mouthguard production and can recommend a configuration for your guard design and output.

Machine Requirements for Mouthguard Moulding

Mouthguards are soft, mouth-contact parts with tested wall sections, so the moulding setup needs:

  • Low, tightly held barrel temperatures for EVA
  • Purging routine so degraded EVA does not reach parts
  • Stripper or air ejection for soft, sticky parts
  • Fine venting, since soft grades flash easily at shut-offs
  • Consistent wall section across the bite area
  • Material compliance data for skin and mucosa contact

Recommended Machine for Mouthguards

Mouthguards are small, light parts, and the E Series (75-180 T) suits most single and multi-cavity guard moulds. Dual-density designs, where the frame is moulded first and placed in a second mould for the soft bite layer, and higher cavity counts may need the H Series (120-350 T). Very small tools are reviewed with the mould details.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Common questions from mouthguard makers before choosing a machine.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Mouthguards?
A small horizontal machine is usually enough. The E Series covers single and multi-cavity guard tools, and the H Series is used when cavity counts rise or a dual-density frame and bite layer run in larger moulds.
  • Are Custom-fitted Mouthguards Injection Moulded?
No. Custom guards are pressure or vacuum formed from EVA sheet over a dental model, outside injection moulding. Moulding applies to stock guards and to the frame and bite layer of dual-density designs.
  • How Is a Dual-density Mouthguard Moulded?
A rigid frame is moulded first, then placed in a second mould where the soft EVA or TPE bite surface is overmoulded. A two-shot machine can combine both steps and is discussed on enquiry.
  • What Material Data Do Mouthguard Buyers Ask For?
Anything worn in the mouth needs compliance data for skin and mucosa contact, covering the base resin and the colour masterbatch. Keep lot records, and recheck before changing grade or supplier.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Mouthguard?
Yes. Share the guard drawing or sample, material grade, part weight, cavity count, mould size and monthly volume, and Pratishna Engineers will suggest a machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Sports Safety Parts Too?
Yes, subject to the mould. Similar small machines can mould helmet vent and pivot parts, water bottle valves and caps, and strap hardware for knee and elbow guards.
