Injection Moulding Machine for Cable Glands and Strain Reliefs

Cable glands, strain reliefs and small luminaire fixture accessories are produced on horizontal injection moulding machines in PA6, PA66 or PP, usually in multi-cavity moulds. Machine size depends on cavity count, thread size and how the threads are released. A seal that keeps its grip through repeated heating and cooling is the main concern.

For gland work, machine selection centres on repeatable shot control across many cavities and steady unscrewing or core movements. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for cable gland moulding and can recommend a configuration for your gland range.

Machine Requirements for Cable Gland Moulding

A gland carries the ingress rating of the fitting at the cable entry, so small dimensional changes matter. Points to check when selecting a machine:

  • Repeatable threads and clamping fingers across every cavity
  • Unscrewing or collapsible cores for internal threads
  • Drying and moisture conditioning for PA6 and PA66
  • Heat-aged and UV-stabilised grades for outdoor luminaires
  • Hot runner balance for high-cavity tools
  • Seal element fitted or moulded on, settled before tooling

Recommended Machine for Cable Glands and Strain Reliefs

Glands and strain reliefs are small parts, so most moulds suit the E Series (75-180 T), sized to cavity count and the unscrewing drive. High-cavity hot runner tools, family moulds for a full gland set, or larger gland sizes may need the H Series (120-350 T).

FAQs / Buyer Questions

What gland and luminaire accessory makers ask most often.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Cable Glands?
E Series machines suit most gland and strain relief moulds. The H Series comes in for very high cavity counts, family tools that mould body and cap nut together, or larger cable entry sizes.
  • Why Do Glands Lose Their Seal in Service?
A gland can seal well on assembly and then relax after repeated heating and cooling in the fitting. Seal material, clamping finger design and nylon moisture content all affect this, so test glands after thermal cycling, not only when new.
  • Can the TPE Seal Be Moulded onto the Gland Body?
The seal can be fitted as a separate part on standard machines. Moulding TPE onto the nylon body needs a two-material machine built to application, so settle the route before the mould is designed.
  • Why Do Freshly Moulded Nylon Glands Crack?
Dry-as-moulded PA6 and PA66 are brittle until they take up moisture, so clamping fingers can crack on first assembly. Conditioning after moulding, correct drying before moulding and keeping weld lines off the finger roots reduce cracking.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Cable Gland?
Yes. Share the gland drawings or samples, thread sizes, material grade, part weights, mould size, cavity count and monthly volume, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Lighting Accessory Parts Too?
Yes. Similar machines can mould CFL holder bodies, LED potting boxes, downlight trims and street light gear trays, subject to each mould.
