Injection Moulding Machine for Knock-down Furniture Fittings

Knock-down fittings such as cam lock housings, dowels and shelf support pins come from horizontal injection moulding machines running multi-cavity moulds in POM, PA6, ABS or PP. Cavity count and runner balance decide machine size. Dimensional repeatability matters most, because a housing out of size will not hold in a bored hole or pull the panels tight.

Selection for knock-down hardware focuses on shot-to-shot repeatability over many cavities and a cycle short enough for very large volumes. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for ready-to-assemble furniture fittings and can recommend a machine for your fitting range and tools.

Machine Requirements for Knock-down Fitting Moulding

Ready-to-assemble furniture depends on fittings that hold size from one lot to the next. Considerations when selecting a machine:

  • Repeatable shot weight across every cavity of the tool
  • Balanced runner or hot runner for equal fitting size
  • Melt control for POM to avoid degradation and burn marks
  • Housing ribs that grip a bored hole without cracking
  • Even wall sections on dowels and pins against sink
  • Platen space for high-cavity hot runner moulds

Recommended Machine for Knock-down Fittings

Knock-down fittings are small parts run in large numbers, so the E Series (75-180 T) handles many cam housing, dowel and shelf pin moulds. High-cavity hot runner tools, or family moulds for a full fitting set, may need the H Series (120-350 T) for platen space and clamping force.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Questions from makers of ready-to-assemble furniture hardware.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Knock-down Fittings?
An E Series machine suits many cam housing and shelf pin tools. The H Series takes over for large hot runner moulds or family tools. Clamping force follows the projected area of every cavity and the runner.
  • Is the Cam Lock Disc Injection Moulded Too?
The cam disc is often zinc die-cast rather than moulded, so check the drawing before quoting. The plastic housing it turns in is moulded, often in POM for a low-friction surface against the rotating cam.
  • Why Does a Cam Housing Crack When Hammered In?
Cracks start at weld lines, sharp corners or brittle, undried material. A gate placed away from the gripping ribs, radiused corners and dry PA6 help the housing survive being driven into a bored hole and still hold size.
  • How Is Size Held Across a High-Cavity Fitting Mould?
A balanced hot runner or runner layout fills every cavity at the same rate. Check parts from each cavity, watch for gate wear and keep mould temperature even, since uneven cooling makes some cavities run oversize.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Knock-down Fitting?
Yes. Share the fitting drawings or samples, bore and panel sizes, material, part weight, cavities per tool and yearly quantity, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Ready-to-Assemble Furniture Parts Too?
Yes. Drawer channel components, hinges, push-fit panel clips and fastener caps share this class of machine, depending on each mould.
