Injection Moulding Machine for Snap-fit Fasteners, Clips and Spacers

Snap-fit fasteners, clips and spacers are made on horizontal injection moulding machines in high-cavity moulds, from PA66, POM, PP or PC. Cavity count and runner layout set the machine size more than the part itself. Retention decides function, so shrinkage on the snap dimension has to stay consistent shot after shot.

For small fasteners, selection centres on fine shot control at low shot weights and fast, repeatable cycles across every cavity. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for clip and fastener production and can recommend a configuration for your part and cavity plan.

Machine Requirements for Snap-fit Fastener and Clip Moulding

Snap-fit fasteners and clips are small, but the snap arm and retention edge must perform after assembly. Points to check for the machine and mould:

  • Accurate injection at small shot weights per cavity
  • Cavity balance so every clip fills and packs equally
  • Drying for PA66 and PC to prevent splay and brittleness
  • Gate kept off the snap arm root
  • Consistent POM shrinkage on the retention dimension
  • Hot runner support for high-cavity clip moulds

Recommended Machine for Snap-fit Fasteners, Clips and Spacers

A single clip or spacer needs very little shot weight, so press size comes from the cavity count and mould footprint. Most clip and spacer moulds fit the E Series (75-180 T). High-cavity hot runner tools or larger panel fasteners with side cores can need the H Series (120-350 T).

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Questions fastener makers ask most before choosing a machine for clips and spacers.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Snap-fit Clips and Spacers?
Most clip and spacer moulds run on E Series horizontal machines. The H Series comes in for large multi-cavity hot runner tools. Required tonnage follows the projected area of all cavities and runners together.
  • Why Do Nylon Snap-fit Clips Crack During Assembly?
Dry nylon is stiffer and less ductile than nylon that has taken up moisture. A snap arm sized on dry-as-moulded data can overstrain and crack, so strain is checked against the conditioned modulus, and parts may be conditioned before assembly.
  • Is POM or PA66 Better for a Retention Clip?
POM has low, consistent shrinkage and absorbs little moisture, so it suits clips where the retention dimension is critical. PA66 gives more toughness and heat resistance but changes dimension as it absorbs moisture. PP suits living hinges and light-duty clips.
  • How Many Cavities Suit a Clip Mould?
Cavity count is set by annual volume, part size and mould cost. More cavities raise output per cycle but need a balanced runner or hot runner, and a barrel sized so the total shot is neither too small nor too large for it.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Snap-fit Clip?
Yes. Share the clip drawing or sample, material, part weight, mould dimensions, number of cavities and annual volume, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Small Engineering Parts Too?
Yes. The same machines suit plastic bushings, small precision mechanical parts, cable drag chain links and industrial fittings, subject to the mould and material.
