Injection Moulding Machine for Cable Glands and Cord Grips

Cable glands and cord grips are produced on horizontal injection moulding machines, mainly in PA66 nylon with PP for light-duty grips, using multi-cavity moulds for the body and cap nut. Thread size, cavity count and unscrewing action set the machine. Moisture control in PA66 matters most, since wet nylon gives brittle threads and splay.

Gland moulding needs accurate threads, clean clamping fingers and steady shots across a size range. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for cable gland production and can recommend a configuration for your gland range.

Manufacturing Cable Glands?

Share gland sizes, thread type, material and cavity plan, and Pratishna Engineers will suggest a suitable machine.

Machine Requirements for Cable Gland Moulding

Each gland has an external thread on the body, an internal thread in the cap nut and fingers that clamp the cable. The machine should handle:

  • Unscrewing or collapsible cores for cap nut threads
  • Drying of PA66 before it reaches the hopper
  • Thin clamping fingers filled without short shots
  • Thread profiles free of flash at the parting line
  • Seal seat dimensions held for the rubber insert
  • Mould space for hydraulic or motor unscrewing drives

Recommended Machine for Cable Glands and Cord Grips

Glands and cord grips are small, and their multi-cavity moulds sit within E Series capacity (75-180 T). Larger gland sizes, high cavity counts or unscrewing moulds that need extra mould height and core-pull circuits suit the H Series (120-350 T).

FAQs / Buyer Questions

What cable gland makers commonly ask before buying a machine.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Cable Glands and Cord Grips?
A horizontal machine, usually the E Series for standard gland sizes. The H Series is chosen for large glands or unscrewing moulds that need more mould height and hydraulic core circuits.
  • How Are the Threads on a Cable Gland Moulded?
External threads on the body can be formed across the parting line or by slides. Internal threads in the cap nut need an unscrewing or collapsible core, which the machine drives.
  • Why Must PA66 Be Dried and Conditioned?
PA66 absorbs moisture. Wet granules cause splay and weak threads, so dry before moulding. Moulded parts are dry and brittle at first, and many makers condition them to regain toughness.
  • Is the Rubber Seal Moulded on the Same Machine?
Usually not. Sealing inserts are separate rubber parts, made by another process and assembled into the gland. Sealing performance depends on the gland design and how it is tested.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Cable Gland?
Yes. Share drawings or samples of body and cap nut, thread sizes, material grade, part weights, mould dimensions, cavities and target output, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Electrical Building Products Too?
Yes. The same class of machine can mould cable ties, terminal blocks, wall plugs and conduit couplers, subject to the mould.
