Injection Moulding Machine for Modular Switch Bases, Rockers and Contact Carriers
Modular switch bases, rockers and contact carriers are made on horizontal injection moulding machines, usually in multi-cavity moulds, from PC, PC/ABS, ABS or POM. Machine size follows cavity count and the small shot weight of each part. The process point that decides yield is the rocker face, where sink or flow marks on the touch surface are rejected.
Selection for switch modules centres on repeatable injection for small shots and a clamp that keeps parting lines tight on thin walls. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal and hybrid injection moulding machines for modular switch parts and can recommend a configuration for your module and mould.
Moulding Modular Switch Parts?
Send the base, rocker or carrier drawing, the grade and cavity count, and Pratishna Engineers will suggest a machine.
Machine Requirements for Modular Switch Moulding
A switch module is three or four small parts that must fit and click together. Points to check when choosing the machine:
- Sink-free rocker faces with ribs kept thinner than walls
- Grades that pass glow wire and tracking tests at wall thickness
- Drying of PC and PC/ABS before it reaches the hopper
- Contact pockets held to stable, repeatable dimensions
- Base snap hooks that flex without stress whitening
- Barrel sized to the small shot, limiting residence time
Recommended Machine for Modular Switch Parts
Switch parts are small, so the clamp is sized by cavity count rather than part size. Hybrid PH (120-140 T), with electric injection, suits multi-cavity rocker and carrier moulds where shot repeatability controls sink and fit. E Series (75-180 T) covers most bases and carriers, and H Series (120-350 T) takes larger family moulds or high-cavity tools.

FAQs / Buyer Questions
Questions switch makers ask when they plan module tooling.
Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Modular Switch Parts?
Single-module rockers and carriers in modest cavity counts often sit on Hybrid PH or E Series. Family moulds that run base, rocker and carrier together, or higher cavity tools, move to H Series. Urea formaldehyde switches are thermoset and run on a different process. Why Does Glow Wire Testing Drive the Material Choice?
A switch base has to pass flame, glow wire and tracking tests plus the customer spec. With glass-filled nylon at thin walls, glow wire and tracking are often harder to pass than the flame rating, so the grade is chosen for the hardest test first. Are the Silver Contacts Moulded Into the Carrier?
Usually not. Silver contacts and springs are pressed into moulded pockets at assembly. Some designs insert mould a contact, which needs insert loading and a mould review before the machine is chosen.
How Do Moulders Stop Sink on the Rocker Face?
The rocker is a touch part, so any sink on the visible face is a reject. Even walls, cored bosses, a gate placed away from the face and enough holding pressure keep it flat. Steady mould temperature keeps gloss even across cavities. Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Modular Switch Parts?
Yes. Share the part drawings or samples, grade, part weights, mould size, cavity count and monthly volume, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.Does the Machine Suit Other Electrical and Electronics Parts Too?
Yes, subject to the mould. Similar machines run socket plates, socket outlet bodies, fan regulator and switch knobs, and contactor or relay housings.
