Injection Moulding Machine for Electronic Connectors

Electronic connectors are made on horizontal injection moulding machines, in multi-cavity precision moulds, from LCP, glass-filled PBT, glass-filled PA66 or PPA. Machine size depends less on clamp force than on small shot weight against barrel size, fast injection into thin walls and cavity count. Flash-free contact bores are the process point that matters most.

Selection for connectors focuses on a small screw that meters accurate shots, quick injection response and stable mould temperature. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal and hybrid injection moulding machines for electronic connector production and can recommend a configuration for your housing, grade and cavities.

Machine Requirements for Electronic Connector Moulding

Connector housings have thin walls, fine pitch and contact bores that cannot carry flash, so buyers look for:

  • Small screw diameter matched to very light shot weights
  • Fast injection response for thin walls and long flow paths
  • Tight parting line clamping to stop LCP flash
  • Hot mould temperature control for PPA and PA46 grades
  • Dried glass-filled PBT and nylon to avoid brittle housings
  • Flatness along long housings for board coplanarity

Recommended Machine for Electronic Connectors

Connector moulds sit at the small end of the range. The Hybrid PH Series (120-140 T), with electric injection, suits fine-pitch housings that need fast, repeatable fill. The E Series (75-180 T) covers general power and signal connectors, and the C Series (140-320 T) takes larger high-cavity moulds. Very thin-wall housings are reviewed against the mould first.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

What connector makers usually ask before they order a machine.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Electronic Connectors?
Small and mid-size connectors run on the E Series, or on the Hybrid PH Series where quick, repeatable injection matters. Large high-cavity moulds and long header housings may need the C Series.
  • Why Is LCP Used for Many Connectors?
LCP flows into very thin walls at low viscosity, holds its size at solder reflow temperature and shrinks little. Its weld lines are weak, so gates are placed to keep weld lines away from latches and contact areas.
  • What Causes Flash in Contact Bores?
Worn core pins, a damaged parting line, excess injection pressure or clamp force set too low. Low-viscosity LCP finds any gap, so mould condition and clamp setting are checked before pressure is raised.
  • Do Nylon and PPA Connector Grades Need Drying?
Yes. Glass-filled PA66, PA46 and PPA pick up moisture and can turn brittle or show splay if moulded wet. PBT needs drying too, since moisture breaks the polymer down in the barrel.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Electronic Connector?
Yes. Share the connector drawing, grade, shot weight per cavity, number of cavities, mould dimensions and monthly volume, and Pratishna Engineers will suggest a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Electrical and Electronics Parts Too?
Yes. Similar machines can mould micro-moulded parts, contactor and relay housings, coil bobbins and charger housings, depending on the mould and material.
