Injection Moulding Machine for Cycle Reflectors

Cycle reflectors are moulded on horizontal injection moulding machines, with the lens in clear PMMA and the housing or back plate often in ABS. Lens projected area, cavity count and prism insert size set machine size. The main process point is replicating the fine prism faces sharply, which depends on dry PMMA, mould temperature and holding pressure.

Reflector moulding comes down to a clean, dry melt path, repeatable holding pressure and steady mould temperature over the prism insert. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for reflector lenses and housings and can recommend one that fits your mould and colour plan.

Machine Requirements for Cycle Reflector Moulding

Reflector lenses are optical parts, and small process changes show up as dull or weak reflection. Look for:

  • Hopper dryer for PMMA to prevent splay and haze
  • Repeatable holding pressure to copy fine prism faces
  • Stable mould temperature control over the prism insert
  • Clean purge between red, amber and clear lenses
  • Gate placed well away from the reflecting area
  • Small shot accuracy for multi-cavity lens moulds

Recommended Machine for Cycle Reflectors

Lenses and housings are small, so clamping force stays modest even in multi-cavity tools. Many reflector moulds sit on the E Series (75-180 T). Larger reflector units or high cavity hot runner tools can move to the H Series (120-350 T). Shot size should use a fair share of barrel capacity so PMMA does not stay too long in the heat.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Points reflector makers raise when they plan a new line.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Cycle Reflectors?
A small horizontal machine from the E Series is the usual starting point for reflector lenses and housings. The H Series suits larger reflector units or high cavity tools. Barrel size is chosen so each PMMA shot does not sit long in the heat.
  • Why Is PMMA Used for the Reflector Lens?
PMMA is clear, holds its colour outdoors and copies the fine prism shape well, which gives a strong return of light. It takes up some moisture and is brittle, so it is dried before moulding and ejected without stress.
  • How Are the Lens and Housing Joined?
Lens and back, in PMMA and ABS or PMMA, are often joined by ultrasonic welding or a snap fit, sealing an air space behind the prisms. Dirt or water at the prism back reduces reflection, so a clean, flat weld face matters.
  • Does a Cycle Reflector Need to Meet a Standard?
Reflectors are often tested for reflective performance and colour under the rules of the market they are sold in. The machine helps by keeping prism replication, lens colour and wall thickness consistent from shot to shot.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Cycle Reflector?
Yes. Share the reflector drawing or sample, lens and housing materials, colours, part weights, cavities, mould size and output target, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Small Bicycle Parts Too?
Yes. Similar machines can mould bell housings, cable end caps, toe clips and handle grips, subject to the mould and material.
