Injection Moulding Machine for Baby Spoons and Forks

Baby spoons and forks are produced on horizontal injection moulding machines with multi-cavity moulds, in food-grade PP, with soft silicone tips added on some designs. Machine size follows cavity count and the projected area of long handles. Full filling of thin fork tines and spoon edges matters most.

Selection for feeding cutlery looks at injection speed for thin edges, flat handles that do not bow, and quick colour change for bright ranges. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for baby spoon and fork production and can recommend a configuration for your cutlery set.

Machine Requirements for Baby Spoon and Fork Moulding

Baby cutlery is long and thin, held in small hands and put in the mouth, so edge finish and stiffness both count. Look for:

  • Fast injection to fill fork tines without short shots
  • Venting at tine tips and along spoon edges
  • Handle cooling that keeps long handles straight
  • Gate placed on the handle end, away from the mouth
  • Clean colour change between pastel and bright masterbatch
  • Clamp sized to multi-cavity cutlery moulds

Recommended Machine for Baby Spoons and Forks

Spoons and forks are small, light parts, and the E Series (75-180 T) covers most multi-cavity cutlery moulds. Higher-cavity hot runner tools, or wide moulds carrying spoon and fork together, can need the H Series (120-350 T) for platen space and clamping force.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Questions baby cutlery makers ask before choosing a machine.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Baby Spoons and Forks?
Lower-tonnage horizontal machines suit most baby cutlery, with the E Series covering common multi-cavity moulds. The H Series is used when hot runner cavity counts rise or the mould gets wide.
  • How Are Silicone-Tipped Spoons Made?
Many designs mould the PP spoon first and push on a separately moulded silicone tip. Overmoulding silicone onto PP, or making all-silicone spoons, needs LSR processing and is discussed separately from these machines.
  • Why Do Fork Tines Short Shot?
Tines are the thinnest areas and the last to fill, so melt can freeze before reaching the tips. Higher injection speed, venting at each tip, correct mould temperature and a gate position that keeps flow short help fill them.
  • Can Heat-Sensing Spoons Be Moulded on the Same Machine?
Yes. Heat-sensing spoons use a masterbatch that changes colour with food temperature. These pigments can be sensitive to heat, so barrel temperature and residence time are kept low to protect the effect.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Baby Spoon?
Yes. Share the spoon or fork drawing or sample, PP grade, part weight, mould dimensions, cavity count and monthly volume, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Baby Feeding Parts Too?
Yes. The same small-part machines can mould fruit and mesh feeder handles, snack cup lids, feeding bottle caps and nasal aspirator bodies, subject to the mould.
