Injection Moulding Machine for Irrigation Grommets

Irrigation grommets, the small sealing rings fitted in a hole punched in a main or sub-main, are made on horizontal injection moulding machines in high-cavity moulds from soft PE grades. Cavity count and runner layout drive machine size, since each part weighs very little. Shrinkage control matters most, because bore and lip size set the seal.

For grommets, the machine has to deliver a very small, repeatable shot into many cavities and eject soft parts cleanly without stretching the lip. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines that can run grommet moulds and can propose a set-up once the mould layout is shared.

Manufacturing Irrigation Grommets?

Share the grommet size, the pipe wall it fits and your material, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a machine for the mould.

Machine Requirements for Grommet Moulding

A grommet is soft, light and dimension-critical, which shifts the machine needs toward fine shot control and gentle part handling:

  • Fine shot control for a very light part weight
  • Runner balance so every cavity reaches the same size
  • Steady mould temperature to hold PE shrinkage
  • Stripper plate or air ejection for soft parts
  • Gate vestige kept off the sealing faces
  • Clean screw purge between colour or grade changes

Recommended Machine for Irrigation Grommets

Grommets are among the lightest parts in a drip system, so a single cavity would waste even a small machine. High-cavity moulds bring the shot and projected area into a sensible band, and the E Series (75-180 T) suits most of these tools. The H Series (120-350 T) comes in where cavity counts or runner sizes grow further.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

What buyers usually ask our engineers before tooling up for grommets.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Grommets?
A smaller horizontal machine matched to a high-cavity mould is the usual set-up. Most grommet tools fit the E Series, with the H Series kept for larger runner systems or very high cavity counts.
  • What Material Works for Irrigation Grommets?
Soft PE grades are used because the grommet must flex to seal against both the pipe and the takeoff. Rubber grommets are made by a different process. Stiffer PP suits rigid locating rings rather than seals.
  • How Many Cavities Can a Grommet Mould Carry?
Grommets are small enough for high cavity counts, limited by runner balance, ejection and the shot the barrel can deliver. A shot far below barrel capacity raises residence time and risks melt degradation.
  • Can Grommets Be Moulded in Different Colours?
Yes, with a masterbatch. Colour helps sort sizes during assembly. Each change needs a full purge of the screw and runner so no streaks carry into the next batch.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Grommet?
Yes. Share the grommet drawing or sample, the pipe it fits, material, part weight, mould size, cavity count and monthly quantity, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Small Irrigation Parts Too?
It can. Drip takeoffs, barb connectors, drip line end caps and drip emitters also use small multi-cavity tools, so one machine can rotate between them as moulds change.
