Injection Moulding Machine for Drip Takeoffs

Drip takeoffs, the connectors that join a drip lateral to a sub-main pipe, are moulded on horizontal injection moulding machines, usually in multi-cavity moulds, from PP or PE. Machine size follows cavity count, the projected area of flange and runner, and shot weight against barrel capacity. The barbed spigot must fill sharp with no parting line flash.

Selection for takeoffs centres on accurate shot control across many small cavities and on clamping that keeps the parting line tight across the barbs. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for drip takeoffs and can recommend a configuration for your mould and output.

Manufacturing Drip Takeoffs?

Send your takeoff drawing or sample, the lateral size it serves and your monthly volume, and Pratishna Engineers will suggest a machine.

Machine Requirements for Drip Takeoff Moulding

A takeoff seals in a grommet on one side and grips the lateral on the other, so these moulding points decide how it performs in the field:

  • Full, sharp fill of barb edges without short shots
  • Tight parting line closure to stop flash across the barbs
  • Balanced gating so long core pins stay centred in the bore
  • Uniform shrinkage so the shoulder seats firmly in the grommet
  • UV stabilised PP or PE grades for field exposure
  • Shot weight matched to barrel capacity for many cavities

Recommended Machine for Drip Takeoffs

A single takeoff is light, so the machine is sized by the full cavity layout rather than by the part. Moderate cavity moulds often run on the E Series (75-180 T). High cavity tools with cold runners raise the projected area and shot, and the H Series (120-350 T) gives room for those larger moulds.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Questions buyers of drip takeoff moulds ask our engineers before a trial.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Drip Takeoffs?
A horizontal machine in the lower tonnage band handles most takeoff moulds. Typical cavity counts fit the E Series, while the H Series is chosen when the tool carries more cavities or a larger runner system.
  • Should Drip Takeoffs Be Moulded in PP or PE?
PP gives a stiffer barb that keeps its shape when pushed through the grommet. PE is softer and grips the lateral more gently. The choice follows the takeoff design, and the screw is set up for the chosen grade.
  • How Many Cavities Suit a Drip Takeoff Mould?
That depends on takeoff size, runner layout and daily output. More cavities lift output but need a balanced runner so every barb fills alike, plus more clamping force and shot capacity from the machine.
  • Do Drip Takeoffs Need UV Stabilised Material?
Takeoffs sit on pipes laid in the open, so UV stabilised grades or a UV masterbatch are commonly used. The masterbatch has to disperse evenly, which depends on steady back pressure and screw speed.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Drip Takeoff?
Yes. Share the takeoff drawing or a sample, material, part weight, mould size, number of cavities and monthly output, and Pratishna Engineers will suggest a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Drip System Parts Too?
Often, yes. Lateral fittings, drip line end caps, barb connectors and flush valve bodies run in similar mould sizes, so one machine can serve several of these parts with mould changes.
