Injection Moulding Machine for Barb Connectors

Barb connectors, the straight joiners, elbows and tees that link lengths of drip lateral or micro tube, are made on horizontal injection moulding machines in multi-cavity moulds, from PP or PE. Cavity count and the side cores needed for elbows and tees set mould size and clamping force. Even wall around each barb depends on well-centred core pins.

With barbed fittings, machine choice turns on cavity balance, consistent injection into thin walls, and enough opening stroke and mould space for slide-driven cores. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for barb connector moulds and can advise the right model once the fitting range is known.

Machine Requirements for Barb Connector Moulding

Barb connectors are pushed into soft tube and must hold under line pressure, so a machine for them should give:

  • Even wall thickness around every barb and bore
  • Crisp barb tips that grip without tearing the tube
  • Core pull circuits for elbow and tee moulds
  • Venting at barb ends to avoid burn marks
  • Balanced runners across mixed sizes in family moulds
  • Opening stroke and mould space for slide-driven cores

Recommended Machine for Barb Connectors

Barb connectors are small, but tee and elbow moulds with several slides grow wider and taller than the part suggests. The E Series (75-180 T) suits straight joiner moulds and compact elbow tools. Where a family mould carries many cavities on slides, the H Series (120-350 T) covers the larger mould sizes.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Points that come up when buyers plan barb connector production.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Barb Connectors?
Straight joiners in moderate cavity moulds usually fit the E Series. Tees, elbows and large family moulds, which carry more slides and need more mould space, often move up to the H Series.
  • Can Elbows, Tees and Joiners Share One Mould?
Yes, a family mould can carry mixed shapes, but runner balance gets harder because each cavity fills differently. Separate tools per shape can make barb dimensions easier to hold from shot to shot.
  • What Clamping Force Does a Barb Connector Mould Need?
Clamping force comes from the projected area of all cavities and runners, the cavity pressure and a safety margin. Locking wedges on the slides also pass melt pressure back to the clamp, so both are checked together.
  • Do PP Barb Connectors Need Drying Before Moulding?
PP and PE take up very little moisture, so drying is not normally needed. Masterbatch or regrind stored in a humid shed can carry surface moisture, and a short hopper drying step then helps avoid splay.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Barb Connector?
Yes. Share drawings or samples of each fitting, the material, part weights, mould dimensions, cavities per tool and production target, and Pratishna Engineers will recommend a machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Irrigation Fittings Too?
Yes, subject to mould size. Drip takeoffs, grommets, lateral fittings and micro-sprinkler bodies are close in size and shot weight, so the same machine can be shared across them.
