Injection Moulding Machine for Fan Regulator, Dimmer and Switch Knobs

Fan regulator, dimmer and switch knobs are made on horizontal injection moulding machines using multi-cavity moulds, from ABS or PC for the visible shell and POM where the bore grips the shaft. Machine size follows cavity count, shot weight and runner layout. Holding the D-shaft or splined bore to size, without sink on the top face, matters most.

For knobs, selection is about small, repeatable shots across many cavities and a stable process that keeps bore size within tolerance. Pratishna Engineers supplies horizontal injection moulding machines for regulator and switch knob production and can recommend a configuration for your knob family.

Machine Requirements for Regulator and Switch Knob Moulding

A knob is a small cosmetic part with a functional bore underneath, and both have to come out right in every cavity:

  • D-shaft or splined bore held to size against wobble
  • Cored boss under the top face to prevent sink
  • Gloss, texture or marker face free of flow lines
  • POM sleeve or body where the knob grips the shaft
  • Balanced runner for even fill across high cavity counts
  • Quick colour change for knob ranges in several shades

Recommended Machine for Regulator and Switch Knobs

Knobs are small parts, so the E Series (75-180 T) covers single knobs in high-cavity moulds as well as family moulds for a full regulator range. Clamp force rises with cavity count and runner area, not knob size. Smaller E Series models suit most knob tools, and the larger ones take high-cavity hot runner moulds.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Questions switch and regulator makers ask about knob production.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make Regulator and Switch Knobs?
Knobs are small, so an E Series machine is usually enough. The model is chosen by cavity count, runner layout and total shot weight rather than by the size of one knob.
  • Why Does a Knob Wobble on the Shaft?
The bore is oversize, oval or out of line with the knob face. Uneven shrinkage around the bore, worn core pins and unequal packing between cavities are the usual causes, so bores are gauged cavity by cavity.
  • Why Is POM Used in Some Knobs?
POM holds a press fit on the shaft and wears little where the knob turns. A POM sleeve can be fitted inside an ABS or PC cap, keeping the gloss and colour of the visible face.
  • Can Knobs Be Moulded in Urea?
Some traditional knobs are moulded in urea formaldehyde, a thermoset that needs a different moulding process. Thermoplastic knobs in ABS, PC and POM, as covered here, run on standard machines.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My Regulator Knob?
Yes. Share the knob drawings, shaft profile, materials, finish, cavities, mould dimensions and monthly volume, and Pratishna Engineers will suggest a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Switch and Wiring Parts Too?
Yes. The same machines can mould modular switch parts, cable clips, cable ties and small socket components, subject to the mould and material.
