Injection Moulding Machine for DMC Components

DMC components are made on thermoset injection moulding machines with stuffer feed, from dough moulding compound or glass-polyester, for insulators, switch parts, meter boxes, breaker shells and terminal blocks. Part size and cavities set the clamp and shot. Tooling is the main risk: DMC shrinks far less than thermoplastics, so cavities are sized differently.

For DMC parts, machine choice looks at the feed unit, cure-time control and how the heated mould is vented and cleaned between shots. Pratishna Engineers supplies special purpose machines for DMC components, each built to application, and can recommend a configuration.

Machine Requirements for DMC Component Moulding

DMC parts are tooling-led, and the machine has to support the mould and the cure. Main points:

  • Cavities cut for the low shrinkage of DMC
  • Generous venting so trapped air does not cause burn or voids
  • Tight shut-offs that keep thin thermoset flash off the part
  • Time in the cycle for blowing flash off the mould
  • Feed unit sized to the shot so compound does not age
  • Hardened, wear-resistant barrel and screw for glass-filled dough

Recommended Machine for DMC Components

DMC components need a thermoset machine with stuffer feed, controlled barrel cooling and mould heating, so no standard thermoplastic series is offered. Pratishna Engineers designs each Special Purpose Injection Moulding Machine to application, with clamp and shot matched to your component, mould and cure cycle.

FAQs / Buyer Questions

Questions DMC moulders ask about machines and tooling.

  • Which Injection Moulding Machine Is Used to Make DMC Components?
Moulders run it on stuffer-fed thermoset injection moulding machines, sized by component projected area and cavities. Pratishna Engineers builds these to application as special purpose machines rather than offering a standard series.
  • What Is the Difference Between DMC and BMC?
Both are glass-reinforced polyester thermoset compounds from the same family. Dough moulding compound is the DMC form and bulk moulding compound the BMC form, and the naming varies by supplier. Machines and moulds for one generally suit the other.
  • Can a Thermoplastic Mould Be Reused for DMC?
Usually not. DMC shrinks far less than thermoplastics, so a thermoplastic cavity gives oversize parts. Moulds are cut for the DMC grade, heated rather than cooled, and vented for the cure.
  • Why Is Flash a Bigger Problem With DMC Than With Thermoplastics?
Before it cures, the compound flows very thin, so it finds gaps at shut-offs and vents. Cured flash sticks to the steel and has to be cleared between shots, or it holds the mould open next cycle.
  • Can Pratishna Recommend a Machine for My DMC Component?
Yes. Share the drawing or sample, DMC grade, part weight, mould size, cavity count and target volume, and Pratishna Engineers will advise on a suitable machine.
  • Does the Machine Suit Other Thermoset Parts Too?
Yes, subject to the compound and mould. The same type of machine runs BMC insulating parts, cooker handles and thermoset MCB or RCCB housings.
